Perry’s film, which stars Jason Schwartzman and Elisabeth Moss, made a splash at Sundance this year. Perry previously directed cult favorite “The Color Wheel,” which was nominated for a 2013 Independent Spirit Award. (TOH’s Moss interview is here.)
As Schwartzman’s Philip waits for his second novel to be published (and, no doubt, to soar to success), he is filled with anger about his crumbling relationship with Ashley (Elisabeth Moss) and a complete apathy about promoting his work. He turns to an older novelist (a dyspeptic Jonathan Pryce) for guidance.
“Tribeca Film has proven themselves fearless by partnering with us for the release of ‘Listen Up Philip,'” Perry said in a statement regarding the announcement. “In this day and age, distribution for independent films is a real broken system, probably worse than it has ever been. So it is incredibly exciting to be working with people who actually care not only about ‘movies’ and ‘stories’ but about honest to god Cinema, I mean serious Cinema that leaves audiences heavier.”
“Listen Up Films” is produced by Washington Square Films and Sailor Bear. Tribeca Films is planning a theatrical release for October 17, with VOD to follow on October 21.
