Warning: “Game of Thrones” episode 8 spoilers ahead!
There was a brief moment during last Sunday’s episode of “Game of Thrones” when we thought it might actually end well. Oberyn Martell (Pedro Pascal) had just driven his spear into The Mountatin (Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson) a few good times, and he seemed primed to take home the championship and set Tyrion Lannister (Peter Dinklage) free. But then, the Red Viper’s pride got the best of him. All of his chatter and repeated demand for a confession allowed The Mountain to gain the upper hand for a single moment. It was all he needed to crush Oberyn’s skull with his bare hands. The scene was one of the more shocking and bloody in the series, and that’s saying a lot.
If you include yourself in the group of fans who immediately fell for the Dornish prince at the beginning of the season — and why wouldn’t you, with his suave bi-sexuality and fire fiddling abilities? — than his gruesome death is no doubt a painful one. Thankfully, a fan made video has come along that reimagines the entire ending, complete with step-by-step instructions of what would make the scene better, like adding a Hans Zimmer score and Ser Pounce. The whole thing ends with a bitchin’ closing accompaniment from Tina Turner.
