A film that impacted every installment in the genre that came after it, the 1974 original “The Texas Chain Saw Massacre” has been restored and will be re-released to celebrate the 40th birthday of the iconic film and its iconic killer.
Yes, it is hard to believe that 40 years have passed since Leatherface first gracefully executed murder after murder in rural Texas and horrified moviegoers everywhere. Having left the big screen long ago, he will return to select theaters this summer. Tobe Hooper, who directed the movie, told Variety that this is the best his film has ever looked.
The trailer, which pulls no punches in previewing the bloodshed that made the movie famous, was released on the web this week, and the crisp visuals hold up to Hooper’s praise. Check it out below.
The limited releases will screen in major cities as well as throughout Texas throughout the summer, beginning in New York on June 21.
