Watch: Harmony Korine Directed an Ad for Dior and It's a Doozy (Director's Cut Added!)

When Harmony Korine broke out with the micro-budget oddity “Gummo” in 1997, few probably predicted he’d land where we find him today: as the helmer behind a new, hypnotic ad for Dior’s latest fragrance, “Addict.”

The “Spring Breakers” director has directed his fair share of ads before for the likes of the rum brand Havana Club and Budweiser, but we’re guessing none of those gigs afforded Korine the budget he got to play with on the “Addict” promo. The stunning one-minute spot is unmistakably a Korine joint, with its bright colors, youthful/rebellious spirit and music courtesy of Die Antwoord, a South African rap group Korine previously collaborated with.

UPDATE: Here’s the Director’s Cut that runs 20 seconds longer.

Can anyone tell me a) why I just wasted 1:30, and b) how I can get that time back?

Robert

Exactly how is this really boring, superficial ad a "doozy?" I'm not falling for your bait anymore.

Don't even name the actress that the perv exploits. I guess that patriarchy and sexism is as common here as in the rest of hollywood. Yay, toilet water. How "indie."

Your click-bate is becoming unbearable.

generic and boring. the only reason i clicked on this is because you said it's 'unmistakingly korine' really? and where is the 'youthful rebellious spirit?" i know he's a dad now and its cool he's getting paid to direct but if i saw this, i would never have guessed it was a 'korine joint.' did you get paid by dior?

And a very obvious 'Through the Looking Glass' Lewis Carroll Alice in Wonderland theme…

Not impressed

what makes you think this had a big budget? one location, bit of art department, simple vfx… pretty standard 300k ad

What a complete snooze!

:(

this is sad, despicable click-bait. get some integrity, indiewire, you're bumming me out.

Why?

Why post this? I love Harmony Korine, but this is just an ad plain and simple. Nothing special about this. No need to highlight it here. He's making some bread so he can live. I resent that you click-baited me into watching a pretty vanilla commercial.

That's nothing compared to the original music video for that Die Antwoord song. It makes that ad look like a corporate training video. Youtube: Die Antwoord – Enter The Ninja (Explicit Version)

I don't see at all how this could be considered "unmistakably Harmony Korine"
