Fans of BBC America’s addictive clone drama “Orphan Black” have endured many surprises in the series’ rollicking second season – the reveal of Rachel Duncan’s father, Tony the transgender clone, the resurgence of Vic – but nothing is bound to shock more than the season 2 finale, airing tomorrow night at 9pm. Earlier today, Entertainment Weekly released a short but impactful clip from the upcoming season ender, one that promises a dangerous conclusion to the season long war between Rachel and Sarah Manning.
In typical “Orphan Black” fashion, last weekend’s penultimate episode ended with a head-turning fake out, as Rachel impersonated Sarah in order to kidnap Sarah’s daughter Kira from the hospital. As always, the scene was another reminder of how dynamic Tatiana Maslany is in creating unique, well-defined characters and just how vital it is that she earns a nomination for Best Actress – Drama at this year’s Emmy Awards. Maslany’s snub last year was painful, and this season her performance has only grown darker and deeper as she has gotten more opportunities to act opposite herself and sink her teeth into the show’s big bad, Rachel.
In the clip below, Rachel makes a sly, conniving threat to Sarah in front of Kira, and watching the two sides of Maslany’s performance face off against each other – evil Rachel vs. fragile, desperate Sarah – is the perfect tease to get fans excited for tomorrow’s big season finale. It’s also more than enough proof that everyone should be watching Maslany’s revelatory work, which just earned her the Television Critics Choice Award for Best Actress Drama last night.
Will the war between these two have a destructive climax? It sure seems like it from the clip, and that has us boiling over with anticipation.
