Welcome to Screen Talk, Indiewire's New Weekly Podcast, with New Co-Host

Some of you may remember Oscar Talk, an awards-focused podcast I did with Hitfix’s Kris Tapley weekly, and later, monthly. We said goodbye to that after the last Oscars, and now I’m starting up again with a new podcast, Screen Talk, and new producer and sparring partner, Indiewire’s New York-based critic Eric Kohn. We are friendly colleagues, but you will see that he’s a man of strongly held opinions– as Kris was –and he does not like to let me get the last word!

While Kris and I came at Oscar Talk from an awards perspective, this podcast will cover a wider range of topics–when award season is upon us, Indiewire’s awards writer Peter Knegt will join us, along with other guests–including Kris. In this inaugural session, Eric and I tackle the best and worst of Cannes and name a few likely Oscar contenders. We debate the merits of Cannes entries from David Cronenberg, “Maps to the Stars,” and David Michod, the dystopian road movie “The Rover,” which opens this weekend. We also discuss another post-apocalyptic adventure, Bong Joon-ho’s L.A. Film Fest opener “Snowpiercer.” Also opening this weekend is bromantic comedy “22 Jump Street,” which I enjoyed with some quibbles, while Eric recommends two other movies opening in limited release today, “Coffee in Berlin” and “Manuscripts Don’t Burn.”

We wind up talking about the return of Nikki Finke. Of course.

I listened to OscarTalk for a few years and really enjoyed it. It's good to have Anne back.

I do hope that Anne's new partners will make an effort to not be bad tempered and discourteous. I enjoy Anne's cheerful professionalism, and would like to hear her partners meet her with enthusiastic shared conversation, respect, and courtesy.

I'm so glad you're back! I also am chiming in, asking for it to be added to iTunes, so I am sure to never miss an episode. Thank you and keep up the excellent work.

Yes, as much as we all appreciate you putting together a new podcast to fill the void left by In Contention, it really needs to be available for download on ITunes. Please. Thank you. Keep up the good work.
