Get your iPods ready (do people still use those?) as Zach Braff is back. The “Garden State” writer/director is ready to bring some twee dramedy flavor to your summer with his Kickstarter funded “Wish I Was Here,” and certainly, some of that cash must have gone to securing some of these artists, because the line-up of new songs he’s managed to score is pretty impressive. Hell, folks at major studios aren’t even putting in this kind of effort, so hats off to Braff.
Among those contributing new tunes to his movie include Coldplay and Cat Power who team up (!) to deliver the title song, professional sad sack Bon Iver who contributes “Heavenly Father,” and “So Now What” by the life-changing The Shins (you can hear part of that song in the recent trailer). Elsewhere, Braff manages to secure a Paul Simon jam, that other Bon Iver track that everyone has heard by now, a tune by Badly Drawn Boy, along with cuts from some lesser known indie artists, who are getting a chance to shine against the bigger names.
The soundtrack will drop on CD and digitally on July 15th, three days before the movie opens in limited release on July 18th. If you want it on wax, you’ll have to wait until August 5th but you can buy it along “Garden State” which will be making its vinyl debut at the same time. Soundtrack listing below, along with cuts and new images from the film.
