“Hannibal” is the rare TV show that gets critics talking as much about its form as its content, and Brian Reitzell’s mind-bending music is a major part of that equation. So it’s thrilling to learn, via Film Music Daily, that Reitzell’s scores for “Hannibal” season 1 and 2 have been scheduled for release:
Lakeshore Records is pleased to announce our collaboration with Brian Reitzell, composer of NBC’s critically acclaimed series, Hannibal, starring Hugh Dancy, Caroline Dhavernas, Laurence Fishburne and Mads Mikkelsen as Hannibal Lecter. Lakeshore Records will release the soundtrack albums for both Season One and Season Two of the TV series.
Hannibal Season One, Volumes 1 & 2 will be available digitally on Tuesday, August 5th. Hannibal Season Two, Volumes 1 & 2 will be released digitally on Tuesday, September 2nd, just in time for the Hannibal Season Two DVD release on Tuesday, September 9th. CD release dates and track listings will be announced shortly.
Reitzell, who coaxed My Bloody Valentine’s Kevin Shields out of semi-retirement to work on Sofia Coppola’s “Lost in Translation,” released his first solo album, “Auto Music,” earlier this year. Several of its nine tracks were named for movies like Victor Erice’s “Spirit of the Beehive” and Hiroshi Teshigahara’s “Antoni Gaudí,” which Reitzell watched in his studio while improvising the music. He also scored the TV show “Boss” with Kelsey Grammar. Here’s Reitzell’s version of the aria from Bach’s Goldberg variations, which “Hannibal” fans will instantly recognize from this year’s bloody season finale.
