Obviously refusing to bide what little free time he has, Guillermo del Toro will fill the gap between next year’s “Crimson Peak” and 2017’s “Pacific Rim 2” with yet another feature. Described to Collider as “really, really bizarre"–surprise!– it’s a black-and-white picture with “one great creature in it” — and that’s about as much as he’ll reveal. Even the title remains under wraps, given the writer-director’s preference for letting people in on his secret once the time is right.
One interesting casting note: an unknown actress who caught his eye in a short film is his pick to lead his “very small” team. He’s also interested in John Hurt. While nothing is confirmed — Hurt and del Toro worked together on two “Hellboy” films — the combination of director, star, and approach is enticing indeed.
The plan calls for things to gear up in February or March, with production interrupting pre-production work on “Pacific Rim 2” for a short time. That sequel should arrive on April 7th, 2017; “Crimson Peak,” meanwhile, hits on October 15th, 2015.
