“Pro-Family” Organizations Take Action Against “Blasphemous,” “Garbage” New Series ‘Black Jesus’ + Watch New Trailer

"Pro-Family" Organizations Take Action Against "Blasphemous," "Garbage" New Series 'Black Jesus' + Watch New Trailer

When I published the upcoming new series’ trailer, about a week ago, I did say that it would very likely ruffle a few feathers. And so, to absolutely no one’s surprise (certainly not mine), it has.

Check out the press release I received from the American Family Association (1 of the largest “pro-family” organizations in the country with over a million supporters, operating close to 200 radio stations across the country under the American Family Radio banner).

After you read it, watch a second trailer which includes all-new footage:

Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim Planning New Blasphemous Show Called ‘Black Jesus’

American Family Association and One Million Moms Says Depiction of Jesus Swearing, Using Violent Behavior is New Low

OneMillionMoms.com, an action-focused division of American Family Association (AFA, ), is urging Americans to contact the originators of new late night programming on the Cartoon Network that portrays Jesus as a foul-mouthed, violent man with a message of anything but love. www.afa.net

Late-night shows on the Cartoon Network fall under the block known as “Adult Swim,” and a new program in the lineup includes the non-animated show “Black Jesus,” which portrays the Son of God as a “black guy living in the hood.” The blasphemous, irreverent and disrespectful show depicts him living in Compton Gardens and makes a mockery of the Lord.

Cartoon Network recently posted on You Tube a trailer for the show, which debuts August 7, and frequent foul language in the trailer alone is shocking and disgusting. In addition, violence, gunfire, drinking and other inappropriate behavior completely misrepresent Jesus.

“The garbage that passes for entertainment continues to disturb us,” said AFA President Tim Wildmon. “This new show is a complete misrepresentation of Jesus Christ and the message of hope and salvation He brings to the world. Even the three-minute trailer was too vile to watch, with multiple uses of the f-word by the actor portraying ‘Black Jesus.’ Christians and anyone who believes in respecting faith must come together to make sure this program never airs.”

Yesterday, One Million Moms Director Monica Cole sent an email alert urging concerned families to help stop the premiere. “Adult Swim plans to blaspheme Jesus on a weekly basis. … (and) the entire program will be based on lies about Christianity.

“One Million Moms will defend our Savior because He is Holy!”she continued.“Adult Swim is obviously not a family network, and this program is set to air later in the evening when children should be asleep, but that is no excuse. Adult Swim has crossed the line by belittling the Christian religion with foul jokes.”

One Million Moms and American Family Association are encouraging Americans to send a loud and clear message to Adult Swim, its owner Turner Broadcasting System, Inc. (a Time Warner Company) and all potential advertisers on “Black Jesus” that this kind of programming is insulting and unacceptable.

“If we speak with one voice now, we can keep this program from ever seeing the light of day,” Cole wrote. “Christians must take a stand and not be silent. Networks like Adult Swim continue to mock Christianity, and we will not stand for it. Christians should no longer sit idly by and allow this blasphemy to continue without speaking up in protest. ‘Black Jesus’ is another attempt to distort the truth about Christianity.”

The online Action Alert enables visitors to send an email directly to Adult Swim and Turner Broadcasting, which reads:

As a parent and a member of OneMillionMoms.com, I strongly encourage Adult Swim and Time Warner Company to drop all plans to air the anti-Christian program “Black Jesus.” This show is another attempt to distort the truth about Christianity. Your network is making a mockery of my Lord and Savior. Your blasphemous show completely misrepresents the characteristics of Jesus and is based on lies about Christianity.

As a Christian, I feel you are attacking my faith. This type of programming is insulting and completely unacceptable. People of faith will not tolerate Jesus being ridiculed.

I am prepared to join thousands of other voices in urging advertisers to place it on their “do not advertise” list in protest of this anti-Christian bigotry. I urge Adult Swim and Time Warner to cancel this Christian bashing program immediately!

I look forward to hearing from you regarding my concern.

I think this show looks hilarious. I mean if we have to deal with Christians telling us this garbage really happened then they can deal with our jokes.

I am a Christian and I am only one person, but I must speak for my Lord..I in no way shape or form believe I am any better than anyone else for we are created equal and in the image of God. This program is an abomination and degrades Christ. He did not speak in vile language or do crude unspeakable behavior..he should be held above all others and revered not blasphemed..why don't you pick Buddha or alla for your jokes and whimsy to get a laugh? It's time Christians make a loud noise against your actions, whomever is involved in this program..I for one will never turn to or allow my children and grandchildren to turn to your network again if this program is aired and I'm sure it will be but I will peruse all of your after market items and none from here will be purchased..just one person but oh well, gotta start somewhere..

Making Jesus look like Ted Nugent from a mid-70's tour is a lot more offensive than this will ever be.

MrWilliams

Black Jesus is obviously a caricature but from the trailers the only thing different about this portrayal of Jesus and the Jesus of the bible is the setting hes placed in, a modern fictitious representation of the "hood". Maybe I have an incomplete understanding of the bible but to my knowledge Jesus spent most of his time with and was a part of the persecuted underclass in his society. If we follow that logic it would seem that this Jesus, although a caricature, fits into that dynamic.

Carl

They should rename their organization to the American Censor Association. Ship them a truck load of kleenex.

Blackman

How come there were statutes built for jesus back in his day?

We have plenty Pharoehs, greek freaky rulers and umpteen insane Romans but no jesus.

makes you think. Moreover, since I'm more into history than belief, whomever wrote about him – DURING his day.

Not one single scholar.

josephus does not count. He was proven to be a fraud

JMac

Brought to you from the same people who tried to get rid of Family Guy. How's that working out, AFA?

If Fox (and its advertisers) didn't care, you know damn sure Cartoon Network's Adult Swim (and its advertisers) won't.

"In addition, violence, gunfire, drinking and other inappropriate behavior completely misrepresent Jesus."
I could have sworn there was violence, drinking and inappropriate behavior going on 2,000 years ago. I bet if there were guns in Ancient Israel, everyone would have been using them… like they are right now.

Adam Scott Thompson

I feel like I've been waiting on this my whole life.

KC

"‘Black Jesus’ is another attempt to distort the truth about Christianity.”

…and all those Christian-funded movies, illustrated Bibles, "Superbook", and stained-glass windows featuring a brunette Caucasian fellow with the Mary Tyler Moore do' aren't?

Black Sun Tzu

Man, these people can't take a joke. I'm a Christiam and I found the trailer funny. The show would never impact my faith and I don't think it would impact the faith of any true believers. Some people just love to make a fuss. Life doesn't have to be that serious all the time. Chill tha f* out! I'm sure Jesus is having a great laugh wherever he is, if he watched the trailer.

AC

Looks like a good show, and their getting publicity. I'll be watching. Btw…. where were all these pro-family organizations when blacks, queers, etc. are being mocked or omitted from tv shows, history books, films, news, etc? Where are all the cries for "Jesus is Love" then? Plus, though I may be mistaken, I thought the lead character is a crazy man who thinks he's Jesus – not, "the Jesus." But I may be wrong.

CareyCarey

OH LORD, a storm has cometh in my home. Listen, I live with a "Christian"… yep, she's a church lady. So when the first trailer dropped she was… well… I guess I'll say she was "indifferent". But lord have mercy, when the pro-family organizations dropped their magic, her indifference turned to scorn. And see, I'm on the front line of her… you know… preachings, so she went there. BAM… scripture quoting time…. "Carey, McGruder is dead wrong… the Bible says..

Psalms 11 Bless is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.

Exodus 20: 7 reads: Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain. New Revised Standard Version: You shall not make wrongful use of the name of the Lord.

Galatians 6: 7-9 reads… Be not deceived; God is not mocked; for whatsoever a man soweth, that he shall also reap.

Now, after the Bible was thumped off my head, I had to sit there and nod like I was in agreement. But in reality I take art for its face value. I mean, it… art, movies etc, are not my first nor millionth reference place to obtain my core knowledge. But since she hasn't completed tonight's dinner… my mouth is mum.

Cade

Black Jesus? Fine. But where does it say he needs to look like White Jesus in blackface? So, if this is the level of creativity involved then – unsurprisingly – cheap sensationalism wins over challenging content again.

Douglas

Not. Funny. I think I know why 'Red Tails' was so bad…. . But at least I have the Boondocks in paperback.

Barbara

I hope they succeed in getting it banned.

Ervin Nixon

Aaron McGruder is out of bounds, overboard and orchestrating the buffoonery that so many black Americans have fought against since slavery and before blackface was Hollywood standard.

Alan

I'm more offended by Jesus wearing a perm. Should have had locks. Mumia could play a good Jesus if he got pardoned.

sergio

The real question of course is whether the AFA is upset about the content or that Jesus is black in the show. I suspect it's really the latter

Diana Suber

This show looks great! Wish I hadn't cut the cable cord.

Monique A Williams

Nothing but good promo for the show!

DamnSon

From the creator of boondocks ? says it all really…. SMH
