The zombie genre has long been one where filmmakers—who attempt at least do something more than have a bunch of undead people lurching around—try to insert political and social context within the brains being eaten. And while there are plenty of places you can still find that, lately some directors have been trying to freshen things up a bit. Jonathan Levine fused romance and zombies with "Warm Bodies" a couple years back, and now comes "Life After Beth," where the heart yearns for the undead.
Aubrey Plaza, Dane DeHaan, John C. Reilly, Anna Kendrick and more star in this one about a young man whose girlfriend tragically dies….or does she? Things change when she mysteriously returns, and as you’ll see in this new clip, it’s something that needs to be kept secret until everyone involved can figure out what to do. The film premiered earlier this year at the Sundance Film Festival (our review) and will screen at the Fantasia Film Festival soon. But you won’t be waiting too long to see it near you as it hits theatres on August 15th.
