Malcolm McDowell has worked with some pretty extraordinary, innovative minds over the years, from Stanley Kubrick (“A Clockwork Orange”) to Rob Zombie (“Halloween”). None, however, touch upon the ingenious depths of the mastermind he plays in the upcoming film “Shock Value.”
In this exclusive clip, Huntley (McDowell), a fading movie star, unveils his newest, most elaborate concept to get him back on top: “An edgy twenty-first century reboot” of Dracula. Mind-blowing, right? It’ll follow “college kids… backpacking through Transylvania.” What’s the hook, you ask? “They’re recording everything on their cellphones. We do a real-time movie using cellphones.” Wow, who wants to get the Kickstarter going?
“Shock Value,” distributed by Gravitas Ventures, follows a struggling ‘B’ movie director, Miles Fowler, who collaborates with Huntley and blackmails a serial killer into being the star of his next film. When cameras roll, however, “creative differences” might just put everyone’s life in turnaround. Arriving on VOD platforms [including iTunes] August 1, the pic is directed by Douglas Rath, and also stars Zak Hudson, Anthony Bravo and Janelle Odair.
