Watch: Reese Witherspoon Enters the Oscar Race With First Trailer for 'Wild'

In “Wild,” Witherspoon plays Strayed, who, after being devastated by her mother’s death, going through a divorce, and fighting a heroin addiction, heads out alone on a 1,100 mile hike along the Pacific Crest Trail. Anyone who has read Strayed’s writing (from “Wild,” to “Tiny, Beautiful Things,” to her advice column on The Rumpus) knows that she’s all about letting go of inner demons and discovering your true self, even if that means heading out alone on a treacherous path. Witherspoon seems to embody Strayed’s story beautifully, and the awards banter is about to begin as soon as this trailer makes the rounds.

“Wild” was directed by “Dallas Buyers Club” director Jean-Marc Vallee, with a script from Nick Hornby. It co-stars Gaby Hoffmann, Laura Dern, Michiel Huisman, Charles Baker, Kevin Rankin and Thomas Sadoski, and hits theaters on December 5. Check out the trailer below:

Is no one else bothered that 38 year old Reese is playing a 26 year old Strayed? Being so young on the PCT was a huge part of the story…

Looks amazing…if Witherspoon is nominated, good for her because it looks well deserved. A win would be great.

What's this new idiotic trend of book titles spoiling the story??

This looks so incredibly bad, are you kidding?

Proud to see this film about Cheryl Strayed and her book Wild which I read.
I was part of the Forest Service crew that surveyed for the construction of the Pacific Crest Trail through the Applegate District section of the trail back in 1971. There is some effing Spectactular areas that I saw then and have never been able to return to see since then, other than a short portion during some other hikes throughout the years. This will be like coming home to see this film. Thank you Reese for your efforts and portrayal of this story for being part of something very important to all of us.

I loved the trailer. I think she'll be 2015's Sandra Bullock. With Gravity Sandra has paid off her undeserved Oscar and I think it's time for Reese to do the same. That's awesome!
