Whitney Houston & Bobby Brown Together in First-Look Photo From Angela Bassett's Directorial Debut

Last week, we were treated to our first look at Yaya DaCosta Alafia as Whitney Houston in a solo shot, for Angela Bassett’s upcoming directorial debut for the Lifetime network – a shot that mimicked the album cover of the late singer’s hit 1987 studio album (her 2nd) "Whitney."

Today, as you can see above, we’ve got a first look at the couple together – DaCosta as Houston, joined by Arlen Escarpeta as Bobby Brown.

The telepic will chronicle the headline-making partnership between the iconic singer, actress, producer and model, and singer, songwriter Bobby Brown – from the time they first met at the very height of their celebrity, to their courtship and tumultuous marriage.

Bassett is directing the film, which is tentatively titled "Whitney Houston," from a script penned by Shem Bitterman ("Betty & Coretta" – the Lifetime Original Movie that Bassett starred in last year).

Larry Sanitsky (who produced "Betty & Coretta") will do the same for "Whitney Houston."

Joining Alafia and Escarpeta in front of the camera is Yolonda Ross, playing Whitney Houston’s longtime good friend and assistant, who was also rumored to be her lesbian lover – Robyn Crawford.

Shooting is currently underway in Los Angeles. The film is scheduled to debut in 2015.

@G.A.Brown is this the same G.A.Brown I heard about from MISSION and BROWNING? If yes you should take over this movie all together. PS . What can you do for the poor sir? Lol

G.A .Brown

Please stop don't make this movie

Dude's hair is not nearly kinky enough to pull of the Gumby haircut. This is a disgrace! Totally unacceptable. You couldn't find a Black actor with the requisite naps?!?! You couldn't perm that joint or something?! It's like having a bald headed woman play Angela Davis. If that haircut is any indication of the attention to detail being paid in this film, we're in trouble! I'm sure Bobby Brown is rolling over in his… well I'm sure he's very upset.

Why is Angela Bassett making Bobby Brown look like he should be a contestant on RuPaul's Drag Race?

I think the casting is great. Escarpeta looks like a young Bobby Brown.

Something about Bobby's looks doesn't settle right with me. He looks like a character on Noah's Arc.

Up In The Balcony

"OMG! It reeks of old piss in here"… "and the floor feels like a fly strip"… "and what's that in the toilet?"… "Week old dookie, my man"… "so why do we continue spending our money here?"

The two disagreeable old men, Mr. Black Statler and Mr. Black Waldorf, reminisce about their days at a Jewish owned neighborhood theater and the upcoming Jewish gentlemen's film "Whitney Houston and Bobby Brown".

"Stat, that place was a rat hole!'
"sure was, that's why we stopped calling it the Rialto Theater, cuz rats and mess lived there"
"Those were the good ol' days"
"GOOD DAYS… like good and fked up!?"
"You know, since we weren't welcomed in many theaters those Jewish guys opened their doors and their hearts to us"
"Oh, but did you notice that while they were opening their hearts they were unzipping their pants?"
"Stop it, that's nasty"
"And so was those funky a$$, rat infested theaters they "let us" spend our money in."
"But Stat, what does any of that have to do with the Whitney & Bobby film?"
"Tick tock, the beat don't stop"
"Come on man, Sanitsky and Bitterman are nice Jewish guys who are giving black folks an opportunity to work and feed their families"
"Oh, something like plantation owners, huh?"
"Stop it. There's no Calvin Candies or Stephens (Samuel Jackson) in this film"
"Really? Well, I smell a couple of Candies lurking in the wings and a bunch of messy mess folks on the screen"
"Well, I guess this is the Lifetime channel"
"exactamente mi amigo. And pimpin' black folks ain't easy but it sure pays well."
"Now you've made me cry again"
"What now?"
"I don't like being pimped. So tell me, back in the day we didn't have many choices, so broke down theaters and sh*tty housing were a must, but why do we continue to patronize that which is not in our best interest?"
"You'll have to ask those who dance to that tune… because I'm not the one."
