Actors Cast to Play Missy Elliot, Timbaland, Damon Dash in Aaliyah Biopic

You’re likely all up-to-speed on the online outrage over the actors cast to play Missy Elliott and Timbaland in Lifetime’s Aaliyah biopic, which Alexandra Shipp is attached to star in – a project that’s already riddled with controversy, if only because Aaliyah’s family opposes it.

Relative newcomers Chattrisse Dolabaille and Izaak Smith have been cast as Missy Elliott and Timbaland respectively in film.

The reasons for the public outrage over their casting should be obvious, based on the photos of both actors above, so I won’t bother spoon-feeding. Make up your own mind.

Also added to the cast are Rachael Crawford and Sterling Jarvis as Aaliyah’s parents,  Lyriq Bent as her uncle Barry Hankerson, Anthony Grant as Damon Dash, as well as A.J. Saudin and Jesse Sukunda, who will play the older and younger version of Aaliyah’s brotherRashad, respectively.

Bradley Walsh (“Turn the Beat Around”) is to direct from a script written by Michael Elliot (“Brown Sugar”). was the first to report these castings.

When/if this airs, Black Twitter is going to absolutely ANNIHILATE it via live tweets.

This Lifetime movie is turning out to be pure comedy! They need to put it on Comedy Central or the Cartoon Network! They need to get rid of Wendy Williams!

I'm starting to wonder are the writers on this site fully licensed dermatologists. There seems to be a lot of concern about the lack of darker hued melanin. If a POC gets the job let that be the end all to say all. If a film, tv show, stage show gets miscast that's on the casting director, director and producer. I'm willing to bet the people that have the most to say ran out this weekend and saw Guardians of the Galaxy instead of Get on Up. Both movies start with a G. And Guardians has two "G's" so that means its a double O.G movie. I know what happened. The cast in Get on Up wasn't dark enough. So folks decided to boycott the movie as a sign of solidarity. I can't wait till Sandra Bullock plays Nell Carter in the "Gimme a Break" feature film so folks can really have something to say.

Their casting director needs to be fired. This movie is going to be horrible.

I can't SMH ! I'm going watch Turddles Ninja.

I doubt they are going to get any of the music rights now since they didn't even cast a big girl, never-mind one that was of a dark complexion, to play Missy.
