The timetable for the 72nd Golden Globes Awards–the third most watched awards show on television–is upon us. The Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) nominations for The 72nd Annual Golden Globe® Awards for motion picture and television will be announced at 8 a.m. (ET) on Thursday, December 11, 2014. Tina Fey and Amy Poehler will host the NBC show at the Beverly Hilton which airs live January 11th from 5-8 p.m. (PT) and 8-11 p.m. (ET) in 160 countries worldwide.
Why is it so popular? Because anything can happen at a live show as tout Hollywood sit at cramped tables eating and drinking, and where the stakes aren’t as high as the Oscars. Besides, it’s all about crawling the hallways afterwards, going from party to party. The HFPA is comprised of 80 or so veteran Hollywood correspondents representing 55 countries with a combined readership of 250 million.
Also produced by dick clark productions in association with the HFPA, the 71st Golden Globe Awards delivered a 6.5 rating, 16 share in adults 18-49 and 20.9 million viewers overall, growing versus the prior year by 2% in 18-49 rating and 6% in total viewers. It was the top-rated “Golden Globes” in adults 18-49 since 2007 and equaled a 10-year high in that key demographic. In total viewers, it was the event’s biggest overall audience since 2004. The telecast generated NBC’s best Sunday 8-11 p.m. (ET) 18-49 and total-viewers results, excluding sports, in the 10 years since the 2004 Golden Globe Awards.
