Gugu Mbatha-Raw & Nate Parker Spice Up the First Poster for Gina Prince-Bythewood's 'Beyond the Lights'

Above is a first release poster for the BET/Relativity Media-backed next feature film from writer/director Gina Prince-Bythewood, now titled "Beyond the Lights" (previously, "Blackbird").

The film’s official synopsis reads:

Blackbird is the story of Noni Jean, a hot new artist who has just won a Grammy and is primed for stardom. But the pressures of success compel her to nearly end her life until she is saved by a young police officer. They fall hard for each other, despite the protests of their parents who want each to focus on their own career ambitions. But he might be the missing piece to unlock her artistic potential.

Bythewood’s "Beyond the Lights" stars Gugu Mbatha-Raw and Nate Parker.

Danny Glover and Minnie Driver co-star.

Stephanie Allain is producer. Relativity president Tucker Tooley is exec producing with Matt Alvarez and Reggie Bythewood.

"Beyond the Lights" will be released theatrically by Relativity, with an official release date now set for November 14, 2014. After that, it’ll have an exclusive television premiere in the U.S. and South Africa on BET.

This will be Bythewood’s first feature film directorial effort since 2008’s "The Secret Life of Bees.

The Bodyguard 2.0?

Not a fan of Gugu's acting, but I think I'll check this out.

Trailer looks good, I will support this film. Gina is a wonderful director and I am a supporter of both Gugu and Nate!

Ginas films always make me emotional, looking forward to seeing this! #Love

Because bi-racial actresses are replacing black women in Hollywood. It won't be long before we see complete erasure. Just surprised they chose a black man to be her lover instead of a white one.

Half of the poster looks like 12 years a slave. Not really original. Love and Basketball was no critical success when it came out .

Why couldn't they get a black actress to play the lead?

Does anyone know the name of the song at the end of the trailer?
