IS IT SEPTEMBER YET??? Summer Mercifully Comes To A Close-BOI's Projected Weekend Top 10

Contrary to what Florence and the Machine might say, the dog days definitely are NOT over, or at least they aren’t over yet at the box office, as new releases “November Man” and “As Above, So Below” (mercifully) close out a moviegoing summer that can best be described as the cinematic equivalent of three months spent at Guadalcanal.  We still have this one week left of summer before we turn the page to September where hopefully Denzel, Liam and a bunch of kids in a maze will provide the movie industry with desperately needed smelling salts.  I can’t believe I’m about to write this but at this moment it’s going to be a stretch for either of the new releases to break $10 million for the three days this Labor Day weekend, meaning it’s going to be another win for “Guardians of the Galaxy” while the Turtles and “If I Stay”, which is enjoying very strong weekdays, battle it out for the Place position.  Relativity will have to hold out hope that its more mature audience simply didn’t realize that “The November Man” opened on Wednesday instead of Friday, thereby accounting for that quasi-flaccid $861,000 opening night.  Despite it probably landing outside of the top 10, who would have thought that a re-release of a 30 year old movie (“Ghostbusters”) would be the most interesting “new” movie of the week.  (Click here for yesterday’s post of the 30 Best “Ghostbusters” movie quotes http://bit.ly/1omznxO )
