We’re not sure what’s scarier, the true story of “The Amityville Horror,” or the fact that the franchise has now spawned twelve movies, the last being 2013’s straight-to-video “The Amityville Asylum.” But now a new theatrical entry is coming to bring the classic series back on the big screen.
Franck Khalfoun (“Maniac,” “P2“) gets behind the camera for this one, which rounds up Jennifer Jason Leigh (who deserves so much better), Cameron Monaghan, Bella Thorne and Red from “That ’70s Show” (Kurtwood Smith) for the story of a single mom who moves into the house not knowing it has evil things in the walls. And so, drapes blow eerily in the wind, violins screech, weird things happen in the predictable manner they always do with this genre, and yet, people do like being scared silly even if they know its coming.
“Amityville: The Awakening” rings in the New Year on January 2, 2015. Watch below.
