After Larry Clark premiered his first film, “Kids,” at the Cannes Film Festival in 1995, he got the urge to make a movie about French youth. The resulting film is “The Smell of Us,” an examination of teenage culture of France. Indiewire has an exclusive clip from the film, which will premiere at the Venice Film Festival.
The film’s synopsis reads: In Paris, every day, the same crew of kids meets up at The Dome – behind the Museum of Modern Art, opposite the Eiffel Tower – skateboarding, goofing off or getting stoned as they ignore the smart crowd of art lovers. Bound by complicated family ties, they are inseparable. Boredom, the lure of easy money and the anonymity of the Internet will all play a role in tearing their world apart.
“With ‘The Smell of Us,’ I wanted to pay a tribute to youth to show its naivety, its confusion, its errors and even more than before, its solitude,” said Clark.
