“I’ve got to tell you: This is a once-in-a-lifetime kind of role. You spend your whole career waiting for your pitch, hoping you’ll be ready when it comes because you don’t get something like this again,” Michael Keaton told the LA Times about making Alejandro Gonzalez Iñarritu‘s “Birdman.” “Let me put it another way: I’ve seen this movie 2½ times. And I never see my movies. That’s how much I admire what Alejandro has done here.”
Endorsements don’t get much more ringing than that. With the movie making its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival in August, and stopping by Telluride not long after, the next stop for the highly anticipated picture is at the New York Film Festival, where the buzz is only going to get louder. And today, we have nine exclusive new photos from the movie, and behind-the-scenes, to share a little bit of what you’ll see on the big screen later this month.
Featuring a starry ensemble including Edward Norton, Naomi Watts, Emma Stone, Zach Galifianakis and many more, “Birdman” follows a former superhero movie star who launches a career comeback via the Broadway stage. It’s a terrific achievement, with our effusive review out of Venice calling the movie simply “phenomenal.”
“Birdman” opens in select cinemas on October 17th. Until then, you can hit BirdmanTheMovie.com, an immersive experience showcasing a selection of animated vignettes and audio bites from the film tied together with interactive 3D graphics powered by WebGL.
