Romany Malco Books Starring Role in Amazon's Shawn Ryan Drama 'Mad Dogs'

Fresh off his run in the “Think Like a Man” franchise of movies, actor Romany Malco has booked a starring role (alongside Ben Chaplin and Steve Zahn) in Amazon’s news streaming series from creator Shawn Ryan (“The Shiled”).

Titled “Mad Dogs,” the project will be a remake of a British series of the same name, which follows 4 friends who take a trip to Belize to visit a school pal, though as time passes, their holiday soon turns into a labyrinthine nightmare of lies, deception, and murder.

The original series is described as a dark comedy and psychological thriller.

Malco, Chaplin and Zahn will play the friends who head to Belize to visit their now-wealthy school mate.

Malco’s character is named Gus, who is described as a former attorney who lost his career after a malpractice suit. He’s now a struggling antiques dealer and in amidst a divorce, which is hard not only on him but also on his 2teenage daughters.

The original British series was created by Cris Cole, and he’ll also be writing the script and exec producing the American (Amazon) version, along with Shawn Ryan.

Charles McDougall will direct the pilot.

Great and humble actor…

Haven't seen the British series, so not really sure what to expect. With the exception of "Alpha House," Amazon has been a little "short on soul" lately, so it'll be interesting to see what they do here. Is it too much Amazon to ask for at least one series with a predominantly black cast?

I guess you never heard of Weeds or The 40 Year Old Virgin…

It seems like Romany Malco came out of no where and just landed in the Hollywood sphere. I have never heard of him before. The only reason I know his name is because of the now defunct ABC show; that he was supposed to be starring in and executive produced by Kevin Hart. Oh yeah "Think Like A Man" and the sequel. I don't have Amazon TV, but I love the concept of the show and would love to see it. I will be requesting it on Netflix.
