After earning critical acclaim earlier this year at its Sundance Film Festival premiere, “Listen Up Philip” is finally getting ready for its October release with a new trailer from distributor Tribeca Film.
Written and directed by Alex Ross Perry (“Impolex, “The Color Wheel”), the comedy-drama stars Jason Schwartzman as the titular character, a self-absorbed writer impatiently waiting for the publication of his second novel. Thanks to increasing boredom and a dying relationship with his girlfriend (Elisabeth Moss), Philip shacks up with his literary idol (Jonathan Pryce) for the summer so he can focus on his favorite subject: himself.
Sensitively shot with handheld cameras in Super 16mm format, Perry brings us into Philip’s world with the same grounded artistry and deadpan wit as Noah Baumbach and “Husbands and Wives”-era Woody Allen. Check out the trailer below for proof.
