Watch: New U.S. Trailer For Mike Leigh's 'Mr. Turner' Starring Cannes Best Actor Winner Timothy Spall

It’s been a long while since Mike Leigh‘s “Another Year,” but the veteran British auteur came back with a roar at Cannes this year with “Mr. Turner.” The director’s most ambitious and expensive film to date is both atypical (a period biopic concerning of artist J.M.W. Turner), and very much a Mike Leigh film (Turner is played by regular collaborator Timothy Spall). As our Cannes review revealed, it’s one of the director’s best.

The film has made its way to North America, screening at the Telluride Film Festival over the weekend, and onto the Toronto International Film Festival and the New York Film Festival in the coming weeks. And to mark its presence stateside, a new U.S. trailer has just debuted over at Apple.

Differing slightly from the prior clip for the UK, the trailer is a good indication of what to expect, both from Leigh’s intimate, very personal epic, and from Spall’s incredible performance. Sony Pictures Classics” will open “Mr. Turner” on December 19th, before rolling it out further in the new year. Check out the trailer below.

Leigh is one of cinema's masters. Naked is one of the best films ever.

While I've never been a huge fan of Leigh's work, he's still clearly a very talented man. This looks like it could be boring, but it's gotten excellent reviews and I am curious to see what Timothy Spall can do when given a really good role, so I'll probably see it sooner or later.

Leigh's Topsy-Turvy is one of my favorite films, and I can't wait to see this one. Spall is really overdue for recognition.
For all the negative comments below, a spoiler warning: no car chases, no explosions, no spandex, and you will need an attention span of more than a few seconds duration to enjoy this one.

Jennifer Croissant you should be eaten for breakfast! For maligning Mr Spall
Timothy Spall is a brilliant, massively underrated actor whose portrayal of JMW Turner deserves every accolade, your comment disgusts me and so do Croissants.

Timothy Spall is a ludicrous fat smelly git who ain`t worth bloody tuppence.

Mike Leigh and all his films are unwatchable horse-shit simply because they are British.
