2015 Golden Globe Predictions: Best Actor in a Comedy Series

2015 Golden Globe Predictions: Best Actor in a Comedy Series

Indiewire’s TV Critic Ben Travers and Awards Editor Peter Knegt will provide regular updates on the Golden Globe races leading up to the ceremony on January 11 at 8pm ET.

Last year’s group of nominees was a rather sparse bunch. “The Michael J. Fox Show” is no more, meaning its titular leading man won’t be making an appearance at this year’s Globes. Same goes for Jason Bateman in “Arrested Development,” meaning at least two slots were open for new nominees. Turns out four new nominees would get in, as Jim Parsons bid a long overdue goodbye to the category and Andy Samberg failed to return after a first-year win.

Replacing the old guard are Louis C.K., a one-time nominee who was ineligible in 2013 because “Louie” took that year off; Jeffrey Tambor, who’s gamble on Amazon paid off in a fine show and finer performance by the ex-“Arrested Development” star; Ricky Gervais returns to the Globes not as a host, but as a nominee for the third time (he won for his role on the original version of “The Office”); and finally William H. Macy, formally on the dramatic side of things until Showtime wisely switched categories to get their star a nod.

Don Cheadle remains as the only actor to score back-to-back nods in the category over the last two years, but odds have to favor one of the new nominees. Tambor and C.K seem like the early frontrunners, but Macy could certainly surprise as well.

Keep checking Indiewire for our updated power rankings below.
