2015 Golden Globe Predictions: Best Supporting Actor in a Series, Miniseries or TV Movie

2015 Golden Globe Predictions: Best Supporting Actor in a Series, Miniseries or TV Movie

Indiewire’s TV Critic Ben Travers and Awards Editor Peter Knegt will provide regular updates on the Golden Globe races leading up to the ceremony on January 11 at 8pm ET.

Matt Bomer went through a difficult physical transformation to portray Felix Turner, the dream man for Ned Weeks (Mark Ruffalo), in “The Normal Heart.” Bomer went from being a beefed up, exemplary physical specimen to a malnutritioned AIDS-afflicted mess all in the course of one movie, yet he was denied the trophy everyone expected him to win at the Emmys this year by Martin Freeman (for “Sherlock: His Last Vow”).

That can’t happen this time around, but there are four more contenders ready to take out the predicted favorite. First on the list is Bill Murray, the immensely affable comedian who played it straight in the HBO miniseries “Olive Kitteridge.” Though he was only briefly in the four-hour drama — as opposed to Richard Jenkins, who was equally effective in more than twice the time onscreen — the Globes could want to hear a Murray acceptance speech on live TV. This one may come down to which one of their nominees HBO chooses to back.

Running opposite the primetime cable giant is its latest enemy. Colin Hanks represents FX’s “Fargo,” and he’s got winner’s blood in his veins (thanks to Papa Tom). Showtime will be backing Jon Voight, fresh off his win at last year’s Globes for “Ray Donovan,” and CBS will be pushing Alan Cumming for “The Good Wife.” All three seem like long shots, but surprises do happen at the Globes. So we’ll all just have to wait and see.
