2015 Golden Globes Predictions: Best Miniseries or TV Movie

2015 Golden Globes Predictions: Best Miniseries or TV Movie

Indiewire’s TV Critic Ben Travers and Awards Editor Peter Knegt will provide regular updates on the Golden Globe races leading up to the ceremony January 11 at 8pm ET.

We’ve already gone over at length the rule-bending done by HBO and FX to get their shows the most awards possible, so let’s cut to the chase. Throughout the TV Movie and Miniseries categories, there will be matchup after matchup between three key contenders: “True Detective,” “Fargo,” and “The Normal Heart” are all looking for those precious Golden statues and they’re all looking in the same spot. Hell, the Best Actor in a Miniseries or TV Movie category is made up exclusively of actors from those three titles (but more on that elsewhere).

As of nominations’ day, “Fargo” has to be considered the favorite. It leads all TV shows in nominations, edging out “True Detective” by one, and it already has an Emmys victory in its pocket. Critics seem to be joining its side, as well, at least on the early Top 10 lists released so far. “True Detective,” though, has HBO and a legion of fans behind them. The studio went to great lengths to try to win a Best Drama Series Emmy with its freshman show, and I wouldn’t expect they’re eager to see another loss in the lowly(er) category of Best Miniseries.

As for the rest of the nominees, thanks for playing. It would be the upset of the new millennium if neither “Fargo” or “True Detective” walked away with this one.

The Nominees:

“Fargo”
“The Missing”
“The Normal Heart”
“Olive Kitteridge”
“True Detective”

Ben’s Predictions:

Will Win: “True Detective”
Could Win: “Fargo
Should Win: “True Detective”
Shoulda Been Here: “The Honorable Woman”

Peter’s Predictions:

Will Win: True Detective”
Could Win: “Fargo”
Should Win: “Olive Kitteridge”
Shoulda Been Here:  “The Honorable Woman”
