AFI Fest Unveils Full 2014 Lineup: Wenders, Cassavetes, Welles and More

At long last, the complete AFI Fest 2014 program is here. This Hollywood-based festival offers the chance to play catch-up on all the hotly buzzed films of the 2014 circuit.

As previously announced, AFI will present a variety of films from new auteurs and American indies along with plenty of Oscar baitAmerican Film Institute today unveils the remaining films that will screen in the World Cinema, Breakthrough, Midnight, and Cinema’s Legacy programs. AFI Fest runs November 6 through 13 at the Dolby Theatre, the TCL Chinese Theatres, the Egyptian Theatre and the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel.

World Cinema showcases the most acclaimed international films of the year including foreign Oscar hopefuls, while Breakthrough highlights true discoveries of the programming process, the Midnight selection showcases contemporary genre films and Cinema’s Legacy spotlights recent restorations of classic films as well as films about cinema history. The festival in total will screen 118 films representing 39 countries.

Highlights of the newly announced program include: Wim Wenders‘ Cannes documentary on photographer Juliano Salgado “Salt of the Earth,” a new restoration of John Cassavetes‘ penultimate classic “Love Streams,” Orson Welles doc “Magician,” David Robert Mitchell‘s brilliantly terrifying “It Follows,” Peter Strickland‘s moving S&M drama “The Duke of Burgundy,” Werner Herzog-produced hockey doc “Red Army,” Jack O’Connell starrer “’71,” Mia Hansen-Løve’s “Eden,” Celine Sciamma’s “Girlhood,” grisly Austrian horror film “Goodnight Mommy,” Lisandro Alonso’s much-loved “Jauja” starring Viggo Mortensen, foreign Oscar contenders “Leviathan,” “Wild Tales,” “Gett,” “Timbuktu” and much, much more.
