Casting News Round-up: Lenny Henry, Keith David, Dondre Whitfield, Tobi Bakare, Stephen “tWitch” Boss

Some casting news you can use…

– First, across the pond, Lenny Henry has booked a starring role in the third season of the BBC One drama “The Syndicate,” which explores how winning the lottery transforms the lives of ordinary people. The new season is set to debut in 2015. Lenny Henry will play Godfrey, a gardener at a manor who picks the winning numbers to the jackpot.

– Second, Keith David has joined the cast of “The Nice Guys,” the thriller starring Ryan Gosling and Russell Crowe, directed by Shane Black. Set in 1970s Los Angeles, the film follows a private eye (Gosling) and a hired brute (Crowe) who must work together to solve the case of a missing girl and the seemingly unrelated death of a porn star. David plays one of the bad guys – the older partner to Beau Knapp’s character – a gold chain-wearing motormouth hitman who also is accident prone.

– Third, Dondre Whitfield has joined the cast of BET’s hit series “Real Of Husbands Of Hollywood,” as a regular for Season 4. Its cast already includes Kevin Hart, Boris Kodjoe, Duane Martin, J. B. Smoove, Nick Cannon and Nelly.

– Fourth, also across the pond, Tobi Bakare has joined the cast of BBC One’s hit drama series “Death In Paradise,” the light-hearted crime drama that centers around a detective who is assigned to investigate a murder on the paradise island of Saint-Marie in the Caribbean. Bakare has signed up to play JP Hooper, described as “a playful and enthusiastic police officer who is assigned to Honoré Police Station.”

– And lastly, dancer and actor Stephen “tWitch” Boss has joined the cast of “Magic Mike XXL,” along with fellow newcomers Donald Glover, Elizabeth Banks, Michael Strahan, Jada Pinkett Smith, Andie MacDowell, and Amber Heard. Greg Jacobs, assistant director to Steven Soderbergh on the first film, will helm this one.
