Not exactly the most imaginative title, but then again, have the franchise’s titles every really been? There was “2 Fast 2 Furious,” “Fast and Furious,” “Fast Five,” “Fast & Furious 6” etc. So, don’t ever expect anything like “Fast & Furious 7: Ghost Protocol,” or “Fast & Furious 8: Quantum of Solace.” Although there was “The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift,” the 3rd film in the franchise. Then again, maybe that’s just how we like it – clean and simple, and always with either “fast,” “furious” or both words in the title, for continuity and to maintain brand awareness.
The next installment in the “Fast and Furious” franchise will be called… drumroll… “Furious 7.”
Money! I can see the box office dollars flowing into Universal Studios’ bank account, like water.
In addition to the official naming of the movie, the studio also released some key art – above and below, via the franchise’s Facebook page.
“Furious 7” arrives in theaters April 3, 2015, with a returning cast that includes Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, Dwayne Johnson, Tyrese Gibson, Ludacris and others, with Jason Statham, Tony Jaa, and Kurt Russell joining them as newbies. Paul Walker is said to have shot most of his scenes for the film before his 2013 death, and his brothers, Cody and Caleb, will appear in the movie to fill in any plot holes.
Now we wait for a full trailer…
