Screen Talk: Debating 'Fury,' 'Inherent Vice,' and 'The Overnighters'

On this week’s Screen Talk, Eric Kohn and I heatedly debate the merits of Paul Thomas Anderson’s "Inherent Vice," which he likes more than I do–he read the Thomas Pynchon novel, natch–and Dvid Ayer’s World War II movie "Fury," which I think works better than he does.

We agree on the merits of Oscar stealth candidate "Whiplash" and disagree again on the documentary "The Overnighters." Eric likes its unexpected bends and turns, while I wanted a clearer and better reported story.

We jump into the record-setting numbers of foreign Oscar submissions, and lay out the frontrunners in that race today.
