With “John Wick” out next Friday, Keanu Reeves logged onto Reddit early this week for a new AMA, revealing insights into past work, personal life and the new film. Check it out to get a feel for the man behind the blue
steel. On the internet we usually see him sad or conspiratorial, but this time, it’s the actor in his own words.
Bring your boo to “John Wick.”
“‘JOHN WICK’ IS A DATE MOVIE!,” the actor says. “It’s got great action, great characters… and a puppy! And it’s fun. And funny. Emotional. And I’m avenging the death — someone killed my dog.”
A known hockey kid, his childhood was active.
When asked for his favorite childhood memory, Reeves says: “Being born!” He then gets serious saying: “The summers, when the school was out, we would build go-karts. And then just ride ’em down the hills until the wheels fell off. That was a good day.”
Sandra Bullock is a pal.
When asked who the “biggest movie star” he’s friends with, the actor at first demurred. “HMMMM. Heheh!,” he said. “Uh, let’s see. The biggest movie star I’m friends with would be…
uh… Sandra Bullock! Yeah, through the years we kinda get together,
have a dinner, catch up, see how it’s going.”
He hopes you will watch some of his lesser known pictures.
“If you haven’t seen ‘A Scanner Darkly,’ please watch ‘A Scanner Darkly.'” He continues with another option: “A
film I’m fond of is ‘Henry’s Crime.'”
“Bill and Ted 3” is still in the works.
“We are currently trying to…get the rights to the story, and get the
go,” said Reeves. “If that comes together, then maybe we’ll get to tell the story!”
He chalks getting the role of Neo up to “luck,” and it’s quite a story.
“I got a call from my agent, saying that these directors, the
Wachowskis, wanted to meet, and they sent me the script, and the script
was absolutely amazing, and I went in to meet with them, and they showed
me some artwork, of their vision, and an early version of ‘bullet
time,’ and it was very exciting and inspiring.”
It took four months of training to get ready for “The Matrix.”
Continuing the above story, Reeves recalls “[The Wachowskis and I] ended up hanging out in a parking lot outside the offices just
talking and riffing, and we basically just kinda shook hands — they
told me they wanted me to train for four months prior to filming, and I got
a big grin on my face and said: ‘Yes.’ That’s how it happened.”
On a “typical Reeves breakfast”:
“Granola (with milk) and a Cappuccino. OR Leftovers – heheh! Um… and sometimes, I skip that meal. You know,
they recently found out it might NOT be the most important meal of the
day. And if I skip the meal, then I’ll just have a glass of apple juice
True to his Hawaiian roots, he loves SPAM!
A Hawaiian fan asked for his thoughts on SPAM’s place in “modern haute cuisine.” Said Reeves, reminiscing: “Fried spam with some rice, yeah! Like in a skillet! Spam from a skillet
into the white rice – Ono! But I haven’t had that dish for a long time,
since I was a kid. Oh, are you kidding me? That was Fantastic. That was a good meal.”
He doesn’t have all the answers… yet.
On asked for the “secret to happiness,” the actor said: “I don’t know that secret! But I’m working on it.”
