We’ve been waiting a long time for this.
After seeing her friend kidnapped, her hometown destroyed, her fellow dissenters beaten, and dozens of children killed, Jennifer Lawrence’s Katniss Everdeen finally picks up her bow and arrow and takes aim at the Capitol.
Released three weeks before the movie’s release date on November 21, the final trailer for The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 is an adrenaline rush that’ll have you cheering on this singular heroine and her fight for a new world. (Pre-order tickets are on sale now.)
We’re far from the only ones excited about the third-parter. Tracking suggests that Mockingjay – Part 1 (Part 2 arrives next November) might be the year’s biggest box-office opening, with a $130-$150 million haul currently estimated for the first weekend. Given that the marketing push for the film has only begun, it’s quite possible that that number could rise significantly — possibly making it the first time that the first three installments of a franchise have all opened at over $150 million.
We’re betting that Mockingjay will be the #1 movie of the year here in the US. That title is currently held by Guardians of the Galaxy at $328 million. That movie opened at $98 million. In fact, only one movie this year has opened at over $100 million and that was Transformers which just did hit $100 million for its opening weekend.
Mockingjay — fueled by both male and female audiences — is due to slay all superheroes and machines come Thanksgiving.
