Angelina Jolie’s WWII epic, “Unbroken” had just released its new trailer and it looks nothing short of well, epic. This will be Jolie’s third directing endeavor and she is producing as well, so we’re interested to see if this will get the Academy’s attention. Adapted the story from Laura Hillenbrand’s book of the same title, “Unbroken” tells the true story of WWII soldier, Louis “Louie” Zamperini, a former Olympic athlete, who survived a plane crash and a subsequent 47 days in a life raft along with several other crew members. He was then captured by the Japanese Navy who imprisoned him in a war camp for over two years.
Jack O’Connell stars as Louie and spoke to Yahoo about the intense shoot. “Contrary to the title, it broke me on several occasions. But that’s the point, isn’t it? It had to break me. Otherwise I was just out there pretending.”
The man who inspired the book and film, Zamperini, died this past July at the age of 97 but not before he gave the film his seal of approval. O’Connell added “Angie showed him some footage, of which he approved of, which means the world to me and to us all. He always wanted to cross the finish line in whatever he was doing. Whether it was on the raft or in Japan as a prisoner of war. He was always trying to get to the end of something.”
The film opens in theaters this Christmas. Check out the trailer and new posters below:
