Chanel brought in Baz Luhrmann to direct the most recent video campaign for its classic No. 5 perfume.
Supermodel Gisele Bündchen is at the center of Luhrmann’s delicious spectacle, which is not-so-subtly reminiscent of his last film “The Great Gatsby” — right down to the near toxic fascination with luxury and nightlife.
And since it’s Luhrmann, certain creative choices are, without a doubt, curious. Especially the decision to use a song from, “Grease” — a film that explicitly focused on middle and working class characters, in contrast with the world of luxury seen in Luhrmann’s Chanel campaign.
