Watch: Justin Long and Emmy Rossum Play Literal Star-Crossed Lovers in 'Comet,' Recently Acquired By IFC

Writer-director Sam Esmail’s romantic drama “Comet” has landed a distribution deal with IFC Films.

The film stars Emmy Rossum, Justin Long and Eric Winter. Taking notes from romantic favorites like “Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless Mind” and “500 Days of Summer,” “Comet” follows two star-crossed lovers, Kimberly and Dell, at different intervals of their fated relationship. After their first meeting under the cosmic light of a meteor shower, the film moves back and forth in time, exploring the intricacies of their relationship. As IFC put it, “The leaps between these moments are seamlessly woven together to create a sense that this love story transcends time and space and that Kimberly and Dell are destined to be together, if not in this universe, then maybe the next.”

The trailer suggests an eclectic chemistry between Long and Rossum–Long’s usual motormouth pessimism is juxtaposed by Rossum’s effortless quirkiness. That and the whimsical, dream-like aesthetic seen in the trailer makes “Comet” something worth a watch. Check out the trailer below:
