Screen Media Films has acquired all North American distribution rights to writer-director Michael Johnson’s debut feature “All The Wilderness.” Formerly titled “The Wilderness of James,” the coming-of-age story received positive reviews at its 2014 South by Southwest premiere and features Kodi Smit-McPhee opposite Virginia Madsen, Danny DeVito, Evan Ross and Isabelle Fuhrman.
Smit-McPhee stars as James, an isolated young boy who falls into a world of dark imagination following the disappearance of his father. After visits with his psychiatrist (DeVito) prove unsuccessful, James rebels against his single mother (Madsen) and takes to the streets. He ultimately befriends a mysterious kid (Ross) who helps him navigate the eccentric city and wrestle with the reality of his own personal wilderness.
“This is a terrific indie film with very compelling performances,” said Seth Needle of Screen Media. “It showcases a strong filmmaking debut from Michael Johnson, who will be on everyone’s radar for years to come.”
“I am incredibly excited to have Screen Media releasing this film,” added producer Jonathan Schwartz. “We share a great enthusiasm for this magical movie and are excited for audiences to see it. We know if people see it, they will love it.”
Screen Media Films will release the movie theatrically day and date in February 2015.
