“Match” starring Patrick Stewart, Carla Gugino and Matthew Lillard, premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival earlier this year and was acquired by IFC Films this summer. It opens in the UK on January 14, 2015, and though no U.S. release date has yet been set, from the looks of this trailer, there’s absolutely no reason why they shouldn’t show the film here as well.
It appears as if Stewart gives an absolute powerhouse of a performance in Steven Belber’s dramedy, which centers on a Seattle couple who travels to New York to interview a former dancer about the dance landscape in the 1960s. However, ulterior motives soon became apparent. The synopsis reads:
When Tobi (Stewart) is interviewed by a graduate student, Lisa (Gugino) about his days as a performer, he is forced to confront painful decisions he thought he had left in the past. With the fate of Lisa’s emotionally shattered husband Mike (Lillard) in the balance, the three characters struggle to find a truthful, common ground, uncertain if their brief but intensely intimate connection will result in disaster and regret – or healing and liberation.
