Last weekend, a lot of people in America went to see “Dumb And Dumber To,” which arrived 20 years after the 1994 original. Clearly audiences were eager for more insipid adventures with Lloyd Christmas and Harry Dunne. It appears the success over at Fox has Paramount rethinking their plans for the forever brewing “Zoolander 2.” A script has been done for a while now, and over the summer Justin Threoux stated that talks were back on and the script was being tinkered with again to try and get it into shape. Well, it looks like it’s all systems go.
Deadline reports that Penelope Cruz has joined “Zoolander 2,” with Ben Stiller, Owen Wilson, and Will Ferrell all expected to return. Huh. We’re not so much pleased and kind of amazed this is happening at all. Nostalgia is in the air, and that sensation, as they’ve seen from their rivals, prints money. The studio saw their own mini-success too last year with “Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues,” which picked up over $170 million worldwide, out pacing the original which barely cracked $90 million.
No word yet on when “Zoolander 2” will shoot, but despite what he said recently, Theroux is attached to direct and he’ll either have to fit it in before he returns to HBO‘s “The Leftovers,” or make it after the next season wraps shooting. In any event, Blue Steel is headed back to the runway.
