BENT does stop-motion promos for 50th Anniversary of “Rudolph”

BENT does stop-motion promos for 50th Anniversary of "Rudolph"

In case you missed it. This week, Rudolph graces us with his
presence a little earlier than usual.
But hey you only turn 50 once, which is why he, Sam the Snowman and the rest of
the CBS family got together and gave us a special treat.

In
collaboration with Bent Image Lab, a
Portland based Production Company, CBS produced a
promotional spot that celebrated our favorite holiday animal and reminded us of
this very special time of year. In the spot Rudolph and Sam the Snowman, are
walking through the CBS back lot in Studio City, talking about their 50th anniversary.
While on their stroll they come upon various member of the CBS community, who
wish him a happy anniversary.

The spot was directed by Chel White and animated by Jen Prokopowicz.  Our studio has been called the ‘keepers of the style’ in terms of the Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer and the Rankin/Bass type of character animation,” says White. “Because we have such a history both with CBS and the Rudolph style, they trusted us to simply take the ball and run with it.”

The
cameos include an array of stars from some of the networks
most popular shows. Pauley Perrette and Michael Weatherly from NCIS, as well as L Cool J and Chris O’ Donnell from NCIS: Los Angeles
greet Rudolph; Chuck Lorre’s comedy hits shows are represented with Billy Gardell from Mike and Molly, Jon Cryer from Two and a
Half Men
and Mayim Bialik, Kunal Nayyar, and
Melissa Rauch from The Big Bang Theory. The spot topped off with Lucy Liu from Elementary asking “Rudy” to “Light it up”.

“We were very excited to fire up our Rankin/Bass workshop to animate these spots for CBS,” says BENT Executive Producer Ray Di Carlo. “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer is such a classic, I’m so happy we are able to contribute to the 50 year celebration of this incredible stop motion favorite.”

The network is currently playing a 10 and a 30 second spot (above) on air, but we know there are a few of you who will scour the Internet for the full
version. We’ll save you the trouble and post it below:

And don’t forget to watch the 50th
showing of the holiday special Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer, next Tuesday December 9th at 8pm
on CBS.
