Crowdfund This: Indiegogo Campaign for Urban Fantasy Short 'Pixie Dust'

Filmmaker
Damon Colquhoun says that he has a “mission.” And that mission is to “push black films beyond the clichés and stereotypes. Black people
deserve ambitious visions and the rest of the world deserves to share in our
unique experiences – beyond films about slavery, and biopics; beyond lowbrow
comedies and upper middle-class romances (all of which I love, but…).”

So, to that
end, he is currently developing his latest project, which he calls an “urban
fantasy short” called “Pixie Dust.”

“Pixie
Dust” stars Mia Guzman, stage actress Rocio Mendez, and Mary Looram from “Orange
is the New Black.”

According to the filmmaker, the film deals with
a “13-year-old girl and her mentally ill
mother who suffers from a mental illness which sends her into violent spells.
She refuses to take her medication, forcing Faye to find a way to get her back
on track. Through Faye’s journey, she discovers a magical family secret which
could help her save her mother, but it could also kill the girl.”

Colquhoun
says that his film should have special resonance especially with someone “who has ever had to manage a mentally ill or
drug/alcohol addicted parent / older sibling…Children with mentally ill or
addicted parents often find themselves functioning as the parent in their
homes; reasoning against; calming irrational, sometimes violent behavior.”

So the filmmaker
has just launched an Indiegogo fundraising campaign to raise $15,000, to help
him make his film, for which he offers a variety of perks – including, something that’s unique: contributors get a chance to actually read
the script for “Pixie Dust,” to help them make their decision to contribute or now.

You can read the script HERE.

He also
adds that he is very interested in reading your comments about his project, which he says, will be useful feedback for him. So tell him what you think after you read the script.
