After winning the Best Actress Tony for the starring role in Beautiful: The Carole King Musical, Jessie Mueller will next appear as the titular character in Waitress, a stage adaptation of the 2007 film.
Written and directed by Adrienne Shelly, Waitress starred Keri Russell as a pie genius (she’s really good at making up new ones) who plots to escape her unhappy marriage.
The live production will debut at the American Repertory Theater in Cambridge, MA, during the 2015-16 season. It will be scored by singer Sara Bareilles, and the rest of the musical will be developed by Barry and Fran Weissler. Diane Paulus will direct. A successful run could pave the way to Broadway.
