Matt Reeves To Direct 'Heat' Meets 'Dog Day Afternoon' Thriller Plus Honest Trailer For 'Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes'

We’ll watch whatever Matt Reeves does next because there’s never been a bar he couldn’t clear. Oh, found footage monster movie sold on viral videos only to become a smashing success and solid little effort in its own right? Did that with “Cloverfield.” Remaking an acclaimed, inventive foreign vampire flick and putting his own distinct stamp on it and possibly outpacing the original too? Please see “Let Me In.” Making a blockbuster sequel with brains, heart and, yeah, explosions? “Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes” dawg, so now we can’t wait to see what he does with the heist thriller genre.

THR reports he’s attached to do just that, lining up an untitled project described as a cross between “Heat” and “Dog Day Afternoon.” From anyone else that would be silly hubris, but from Reeves? Well, we know we can expect big things. The plot details are being kept under wraps but Tobey Maguire is producing with Matt Charman (who is writing Steven Spielberg‘s upcoming Cold War thriller) penning the script. Promising stuff indeed.

So until we know more, here’s the Honest Trailer for ‘Dawn.’ Yeah, we know, the movie is really good and this is a bit nitpicky, but at least it concedes that horse-riding, machine-gun-wielding apes are awesome.
