If you’ve been displeased (as I know many have) with President Obama’s public reactions to the recent deaths of Mike Brown, Eric Garner, Tamir Rice, and others, at the hands of the police, maybe, just maybe, his upcoming exclusive with BET Networks will give you more of what you’re looking for, from him.
Did I say, maybe?
Per the press release, in the interview, “BET News Presents: A Conversation with President Barack Obama,” which will be conducted by BET News’ Jeff Johnson, Obama will address community concerns and calls for justice and equality, in relation to recent grand jury decisions. The interview will air on BET’s “106 & Park,” which I thought was an interesting choice, indicating the audience BET and/or the president, want to reach.
A portion of the interview will air on Monday, December 8, at 5 pm ET/PT, acting as a tease, and the full in-depth conversation will air immediately following at 6 pm ET/PT. I would’ve expected a prime-time slot for this, and not when most adults are heading home from the office – again, maybe an indication of the audience BET and/or the president want to reach.
This will mark Obama’s first network interview during which he shares his thoughts on the recent deaths of black men at the hands of white police officers, as well as worldwide protests in response to those deaths. The President will discuss his strategy, not only to investigate the various incidents, but ways in which he believes that the country can come together during this time.
