ScreenCrush’s Mike Ryan Will Move to Uproxx in January

ScreenCrush's Mike Ryan Will Move to Uproxx in January

Nine months after joining ScreenCrush from the Huffington Post, Mike Ryan is on the move again. Beginning in January, he will join Uproxx as Senior Entertainment Writer. “I’ve known Mike since the mid-2000s when we were both just a couple of
guys with Blogspot personal blogs and I’m over the moon to have him join
the staff,” said Uproxx Editor-in-Chief Brett Michel Dykes. “His interviews with actors, actresses, directors,
etc. are always lively and compelling. He’s simply, in my opinion, the
best at what he does. His talents will go a long way in helping us
bolster our film coverage, in addition to making our already strong TV
coverage even stronger.”

Ad Age reported that Uproxx’s parent company, Woven Digital, recently secured $18 million in financing with an eye towards expanding its reach towards the audience courted by sites like BuzzFeed, Vox and Vice. “We’ve been competing for such a long time with a pretty restrained attitude towards the whole thing because we’ve done it really capital-efficiently”, CEO Scott Grimes told Ad Age, “So I’m excited to deploy some more money in areas of growth … we’ve been experiencing. But definitely comparative to some of the competitors in our space, this is a drop in the bucket.”

Ryan will be bringing his skill for interviews, like this one with Rupert Wyatt about what his “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes” might have looked like (James Franco: Still dead), with him, as well as portable features like his popular “SNL Scorecard.” ScreenCrush, which recently added Criticwire founder Matt Singer to its film staff, will be looking to fill Ryan’s position.
