TV Casting News: Da’vine Joy Randolph, Ernie Hudson, Alfonso Ribeiro, Loretta Devine, Roger Cross, Keith & Kenny Lucas

Some TV news stories you should know about…

First, Da’vine Joy Randolph has been cast as a female lead in “Vice Principals,” HBO’s 18-episode comedy series from “Eastbound & Down” creators Danny McBride and Jody Hill. “Vice Principals” tells the story of a high school and the people who almost run it: the vice principals. Randolph plays Dr. Belinda Brown, the confident & powerful new Principal at Lincoln High school.

Second, Ernie Hudson has been cast as King Poseidon in ABC’s “Once Upon A Time.” He’ll first appear in episode 15 of the fairytale drama’s current season, when Poseidon is revealed as the father of the villainous Ursula, played by Merrin Dungey. 

Third, Alfonso Ribeiro will help answer viewers’ most pressing questions and offer behind-the-scenes details on classic American treats in” Unwrapped 2.0,” premiering Monday, February 2nd 2015 at 10pm ET/7pm PT on the Cooking Channel. “From Caramel Apples and Honey BBQ Potato Chips to Pork Rinds and Fortune Cookies, join Alfonso as he explores the creation and secrets behind such legendary foods, 2.0 style,” states the press release.

Fourth, Syfy announced casting of the new acquired scripted series “Dark Matter,” and Roger Cross (most recently seen on the small screen in “The Strain”) is one of them. He joins Melissa O’Neil, Marc Bendavid, Anthony Lemke, Alex Mallari Jr. and Jodelle Ferland in a series based on the graphic novel “Dark Matter” by Joseph Mallozzi and Paul Mullie, published by Dark Horse Comics. It tells the story of the crew of a derelict spaceship who are awakened from stasis with no memories of who they are or how they got on board. Facing threats at every turn, they have to work together to survive a voyage charged with vengeance, betrayal and hidden secrets.

Fifth, Loretta Devine has been cast opposite Jerrod Carmichael in the upcoming new NBC comedy series based on Carmichael’s life, titled “Go Jerrod Go.” Devine joins Amber West who was cast last week as Jerrod’s girlfriend. The project follows a young couple, Jerrod (Carmichael) and Maxine (Amber West), who decide to move in together, but when it comes time to tell Jerrod’s parents, he finds every reason in the world to hold off on breaking the news to them. Devine will play Jerrod’s mother.

And finally, Keith and Kenny Lucas, creators and voice stars of Fox’s animated series, “The Lucas Bros. Moving Co.,” are developing a live-action comedy for the network. To be titled “A Better Bushwick,” the comedy will tell the story of identical twin brothers, who drop out of Duke and NYU law schools in their third years, in order to become community organizers – thanks to President Obama.
