Voice of "Babe", Dexter on "Dexter's Laboratory, "Chuckie" on Rugrats - Christine Cavanaugh (1963-2014) R.I.P.

Sad news to report – voice actress Christine Cavanaugh passed away last Monday, December 22nd, as reported in a notice published in today’s L.A. Times. Cavanaugh was the voice of several 1990s era animated icons including “Chuckie Finster” on Nickelodeon’s Rugrats, “Goslyn” on Disney’s Darkwing Duck, “Dexter” on Cartoon Network’s Dexter’s Laboratory. She was also the voice of piglet Babe in Chris Noonan’s 1995 movie hit.

Christine was born and raised in Utah and later attended University of Hawaii where she met her future husband. After college she moved to California to pursue her acting career. Other characters she voiced included Marty Sherman (The Critic 1994-95), Oblina (Ahhhhh Real Monsters 1994-97), Bunnie Rabbot (Sonic The Hedgehog 1993-94), and Bamm-Bamm (on Cave Kids in 1996). She also appeared on screen in small parts on TV’s Cheers, Empty Nest, Wings, The X-Files and Everybody Loves Raymond – and on the big screen in Jerry Maguire (1996).

Christine retired from her voice acting career in 2001 to be closer to her family – but here is how she’ll always be remembered:

I remember meeting Christine Cavanaugh at the Annie Awards (1996, 1997, 1998). She was first nominated for best voice at the 1998 Annie Awards, after the ceremony she greeted and congratulated the winner, which was none other than June Foray. Later, when Christine met up with Lucille Bliss, I heard her said to Bliss "Yeah, you’re June Foray’s sister".

When Cavanaugh dies, Milo will still voice Dexter in Animaniacs Season 6 & Dexter’s Laboratory Season 5 this year.

I feel the need for a Rugrats marathon now….*cries*
