Four years ago, David Robert Mitchell unveiled “The Myth Of The American Sleepover,” his take on young love, suburbia, and youth. But who would’ve thought a few years later he’d return with one of the most talked about horror efforts in recent memory? Indeed, Mitchell arrived at Cannes and immediately got talk started with “It Follows,” and after hitting the festival circuit (picking up Best Film and Best Screenplay at Fantastic Fest), the movie is finally headed to cinemas, at least overseas. Following a terrific teaser for the French release, a new one has landed for the U.K. run, and you’ll definitely want to check it out.
Maika Monroe, who you might’ve seen in “The Guest,” leads the movie, playing a young woman whose dream date winds up deadly when she’s infected by a sexually transmitted haunting. It finds her chased by phantoms who want her dead, and the only way out will be to pass it along to someone else. Damn. And Mitchell nicely captures the flavor of the curdled teenage dating experience.
“It Follows” arrives on U.K. screens on February 27th. Radius has the U.S. rights but no date has been set.
