Here’s a statistic to take into your weekend: within eleven years, elephants living in the wild could be extinct. Eleven years. Among the many issues facing the planet, the fate of elephants is perhaps one that doesn’t get as much attention as it should. But today that changes with Oscar-winning director Kathryn Bigelow‘s new, must-watch short PSA “Last Days.”
The mostly animated doc runs less than four minutes long, but is loaded with all kinds of statistics, and more crucially, it strikes the necessary chord of emotional impact. It’s a hard-hitting summary of a global problem whose implications are far reaching; illegal ivory sales fund terrorism, are quickly decimating the population of an entire species, and time is running out to change things. Consider our awareness raised.
