Watch: The Trailer for Oscar Contender 'Tales of the Grim Sleeper' is a Devastating Portrait of Racism
After premiering to raves at Telluride earlier this year, Nick Broomfield’s documentary “Tales of the Grim Sleeper” has its first trailer.
Broomfield (“Heidi Fleiss: Hollywood Madam”) presents a unique story about a serial killer who plagued the streets of South Central Los Angeles. “Tales” explores the distrusting relationship between the poor black community in L.A. and the cops who didn’t make much of an effort to stop the killer — undoubtedly, a timely portrait of racism in this country.
The film was recently short-listed for the Academy Award for Best feature Documentary. “Tales of the Grim Sleeper” will have brief, Oscar-qualifying theatrical runs in LA and New York on December 11 and 18 respectively. It will then air on HBO sometime in April.
